HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE

Siza Water maintains a joint management-worker health and safety committee throughout its operations in order to strengthen its health and safety programmes. The committees meet on a monthly basis and discuss pertinent occupational health and safety issues, report any incidents and deviations and identify actions for further investigation, as may be needed.

The organisation collects, analyses and assesses key statistics relating to occupational diseases, rates of injuries, and lost time to injuries, as well as absenteeism. Our health and safety representatives have significant knowledge and expertise and are actively involved with health and safety in the workplace.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT

The occupational health programmes and standards, which are aligned to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, assists employees in the following areas:

  • Provision of health education.

  • Provision of guidance and counselling.

  • Management of employee assistance programme.

  • Primary health care including minor ailments, treatment and referrals where necessary.

  • Workplace observation and intervention if circumstances become hazardous to health.

  • Medical Surveillance Programmes are conducted annually to screen employees exposed to hazardous environments and ultimately ensuring a safe workforce.

As part of this commitment, Siza Water has an Integrated Management System that is independently certified for the following International Standards (ISO) Systems:

  1. ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System – ensures we have efficient systems to provide safe and clean water services

  2. ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management – that ensures all staff as well as contractors have a duty to protect, preserve and care for the environment.

  3. ISO 45001:2018 – Occupational Health & Safety – to protect the health and safety of our employees, our customers/community, our suppliers, sub-contractors and the total value chain required to render our services.
